Structural Design Corporation (SDC) provides structural inspection and structural engineering services for single and multi-family residential structures in Chicago and 6 County area.  Some of the Cities and Towns that we serve are provided to the right.  SDC is unique in providing residential structural engineers to inspect and design repairs for Chicago area homeowners.

We are approved by several national realty firms to help both home owners and home buyers determine the structural adequacy of residential properties prior to sale.  We develop structural repair plans and can help home owners evaluate proposals from foundation and repair contractors when structural deficiencies need to be addressed.

The principles of Structural Design Corporation are licensed in the states of Illinois, Indiana, and California.  In California we provide engineering services to design or retrofit homes for earthquake.  We offer our services in Marin and Sonoma Counties and in the Lake Tahoe regions of Northern California.

Steel Industry

SDC has provided a variety of engineering services to the Steel Industry for 25 years.  Our Clients include the largest steelmakers in the United States and South America. 

We are experienced in developing corporate structural inspection programs using our Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management System (SIMMS).  SIMMS is a Microsoft Access database program that maintains the inspection data, processes the inspection reports, and can post process the inspection data. 

SIMMS can be used to develop both condition based inspection programs and condition based repair plans.  The plans are based on the rated condition of the structure (Good-Fair-Poor) and the repair priority of each deficiency.  

SDC excels at EOT crane runway rehabilitation, torsional fatigue analysis of EOT crane girders, and Blast Furnace dirty gas system inspection and repair.

Power and Petroleum Industries

SDC designs structures for equipment suppliers in both the Power and Petroleum industries.  We have designed fly ash silos, dewatering bins, ash hoppers, settling tanks, and surge tanks for OEM's of Ash Handling Equipment.  We have also designed structures for UOP's Recovery Plus and Penex systems. 

Institutional

SDC designs "Fixed Equipment Anchorages" for central plant equipment and piping in accordance with the seismic restraint requirements outlined in the State of California Building Code.  Our Seismi-Strut Channel Frames (OSHPD Pre-Approval R-0091) have been installed in the central plants of several Kaiser Hospitals throughout California.  We have designed the seismic restraint systems for several steam piping systems.  Our largest project was for the restraint design of the Central Plant Piping for the LA County Jail.

Commercial

SDC performs structural dynamic time history analysis on buildings subject to vibration.  The results of the analysis are used to determine how to add mass to a structure to dampen the vibrations from reciprocating equipment. 

Structural Design Corporation has a team of engineers to perform finite element analysis of tanks and vessels used in the food and process industry.
